Hold Time Definition

DspSee Symbol symbol measure hold time

It is the time difference between the selected data edges and the immediately preceding selected clock edges.

Active Clock Edge Active Data Edge Measures Setup Time Between ...
Falling* Falling Falling clock edges & falling data edges.
Rising Falling clock edges & rising data edges.
Both Falling clock edges & all data edges.
Rising* Falling Rising clock edges & falling data edges.
Rising Rising clock edges & rising data edges.
Both Rising clock edges & all data edges.
Both** Falling All clock edges & falling data edges.
Rising All clock edges & rising data edges.
Both All clock edges & all data edges.

* Usable both for SDR (1 data edge/clock) & DDR (2 data edges/clock) systems.
** Meaningfull only for DDR systems.

Significance of statistics:
MeanImportant. The mean hold time should be as large as possible.
MinVery important. The min hold time should be as large as possible.
MaxNot important. However max hold time larger than the half clock period will make a dent into the min setup time.
Peak cy-cyImportant. A higher cycle-to-cycle hold time indicates that the system is affected by noise or jitter or both.
Peak-to-peakImportant. A high peak-to-peak and a small cycle-to-cycle indicates presence of long-term jitter.
